LM file structure

From LM version 4.8 on, the so far implemented file structure (all files were located within the LM program file directory) had to be revised completely. That became necessary due to operating system restrictions from Windows Vista on.

Fixed folders

LM program folder: %ProgramFiles%\Gelbland\LM
The system variable %ProgramFiles% may vary depending on Windows version and -language. Examples:
  • Windows XP (32 Bit): "C:\Program Files"
  • Windows 7 (64 Bit): "C:\Program Files (x86)"

LM program data folder (sub folders: see below): %ProgramData%\Gelbland\LM
The system variable %ProgramData% may vary depending on Windows version and -language. Examples:
  • Windows XP: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data"
  • Windows 7: "C:\ProgramData"

Files belonging to the LM package will be installed in the following folders:
  • The program itself and belonging help files: LM program folder
  • Language files: LM program data folder, sub folder \Encoded
  • ASCII file format list: LM program data folder, sub folder \Encoded
  • E-Mail address list: LM program data folder, sub folder \Encoded
  • Country files: LM program data folder, sub folder \CountryFiles
  • Member lists: LM program data folder, sub folder \MemberLists
  • Assignment tables: LM program data folder, sub folder \AssignmentTables

Due to the fact, that country files, member lists and assignment tables are editable/updateable text files, LM offers easy access to the regarding folders over the menu item "File | Show LM program data | ...". Most Windows configurations hide those folders by default.

    Custom folders

User data folder: Initially recommended folders for user data (Logs, E-Mails etc), including example files:
  • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\LM
  • Windows 7: C:\Users\Public\Documents\LM

    Default subfolders for user data:
  • For LM binary data files (LMF): User data folder, subfolder "\LM Logs"
  • For logs exported into foreign formats: User data folder, subfolder "\Exported Logs"
  • For stored E-Mails which have been sent with the integrated E-Mail-Client: User data folder, subfolder "\E-Mails"

The default pathes of the custom folders can be changed in the options dialog.
